At Pinnacle Peak Recovery in Scottsdale, we've walked thousands of people through that first step since 2016. This page tells you exactly what to expect – from your first call to your first day and everything in between.

The First Call: What to Expect

Picking up the phone is the moment most people dread – and the one that almost always feels better than expected.

When you call Pinnacle Peak Recovery at (866) 377-4761, you'll speak with a real person on our admissions team. Not a recorded message. Not a callback queue. A trained admissions coordinator whose job is to listen and help, not to pressure you into a decision.

Here's what that first conversation typically looks like:

  1. You'll share a bit of what's been going on. This doesn't have to be a full history. A general picture of what substances or mental health concerns are involved and how long things have been difficult is enough to get started.
  2. We'll ask a few questions. Things like your living situation, whether you've been in treatment before, and any relevant medical or psychiatric history. These help us point you toward the right level of care.
  3. We'll explain your options. Based on what you share, your coordinator will give you an honest picture of what might fit your situation — detox, inpatient, outpatient, or a combination.
  4. We'll check your insurance. Right there on the call, we can begin the verification process so you know what's covered before you make any decisions.
  5. You'll get answers. There's no limit to what you can ask. Cost, length of stay, what a typical day looks like, what to tell your employer – all of it is fair game.

If you're calling for someone else and aren't ready to share your own information, that's completely fine. We can help you understand the process, answer questions about what treatment looks like, and help you figure out how to support someone you love – without requiring anything you're not ready to give.

The goal of that first call isn't to get you admitted.

It's to get you the information you need to make the right decision.

Once admission is confirmed, a few practical things are worth taking care of before you arrive. Handling these in advance means you can focus entirely on treatment once you're here, rather than managing logistics from inside the program.

admissions & intake process
  • Notify your employer if needed. If you are taking time away from work, you may qualify for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which provides up to 12 weeks of job-protected medical leave for qualifying employees. Your admissions coordinator can provide documentation to support your leave without requiring disclosure of the specific nature of your treatment. "Medical leave" is accurate and sufficient.
  • Handle financial and household logistics. Set up automatic bill payments if possible. Make arrangements for any dependents or pets during your stay.
  • Let a trusted person know. You don't need to tell everyone – but having at least one person who knows where you are and supports the decision matters more than most people expect.
  • Write down important phone numbers. Don't rely solely on your phone to store contacts. Have key numbers written somewhere accessible, regardless of device access.
  • Bring your insurance card and a valid photo ID. You'll need both on the day you arrive.

Our philosophy is that every single client can benefit from an individualized treatment program that is designed specifically to address their needs and struggles.

The more of this you can take care of in advance, the smoother your first few days will be. Our admissions team is available to help you think through any logistics that feel overwhelming. That's what they're there for.

Pinnacle Peak Recovery is located at 8070 East Morgan Trail, Suite 200, Scottsdale, AZ 85258 – approximately 30 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and easily accessible from across the Phoenix metro area.

If you're traveling from out of state or need help getting to the facility, call our admissions team, and we'll help coordinate your arrival. We understand that logistics can feel like one more barrier when you're already doing something hard.

Options we can help arrange include:

  • Coordinating a rideshare pickup
  • Helping plan travel from another city or state
  • Assisting with flight arrangements for clients traveling long distances

Getting here shouldn't be what stands in the way of getting help. If travel is a concern, bring it up on your first call, and we'll work through it together.

Pack for approximately 7 to 14 days of comfortable living. Pinnacle Peak has laundry facilities on-site, so there's no need to overpack. The goal is to bring what you need to feel comfortable and focused, not everything from home.

Clothing and personal items:

  • Comfortable everyday clothing, including workout attire for yoga, gym sessions, and outdoor activities
  • Shorts no shorter than mid-thigh for both men and women
  • At least one pair of athletic or comfortable shoes
  • Personal toiletries: soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and any other personal hygiene items

Documents and medical:

  • Valid photo ID or driver's license
  • Insurance card
  • Prescription medications in their original labeled containers
  • A written list of all current and recent medications

Personal comfort:

  • Books, a journal, or personal items for downtime
  • A written list of important phone numbers – family, close friends, your doctor, your employer, if relevant
  • A small amount of cash for incidentals if needed

Coming prepared makes the transition easier. If you're unsure whether something is appropriate to bring, call our admissions team and ask – there are no silly questions at this stage.

To protect the safety and clinical focus of everyone in treatment, certain items are not permitted at Pinnacle Peak Recovery. Your belongings will be checked upon arrival.

Do not bring any of the following:

Not Permitted Reason
Alcohol, drugs, or paraphernalia of any kind Safety and sobriety of all clients
Prescription medications not in their original labeled containers Clinical verification and medication management
Weapons or anything that could cause harm Safety of clients and staff
Provocative, offensive, or substance-themed clothing Maintaining a supportive clinical environment
Excessive cash or valuables Security and minimizing distraction

A note on cell phones and laptops: Device policies during residential treatment are designed to protect the clinical environment and support your focus on recovery rather than outside distractions. The specific guidelines around phone access – when phones are permitted, under what circumstances, and how usage is managed - should be confirmed directly with your admissions coordinator before arriving, as policies can vary depending on your level of care and where you are in your program.

Regardless of device access, writing down your important phone numbers in advance is strongly recommended. That way, you have them no matter what.

What Happens When You Arrive

Your first day at Pinnacle Peak is designed to feel like a welcome, not a processing procedure.

Here's how it typically unfolds:

  1. Check-in and belongings review. You'll arrive, check in with our team, and have your belongings reviewed. This is routine and handled with respect.
  2. Facility tour. You'll get a full tour of the facility so you know where everything is and what to expect from the physical space.
  3. Orientation. Your team will walk you through the program structure, the daily schedule, house guidelines, and what the first few days will look like.
  4. Clinical, psychiatric, and medical evaluations. Our clinical, psychiatric, and medical teams will complete their initial assessments to finalize your individualized treatment plan.
  5. Meeting your primary therapist. You'll be matched with the therapist who will oversee your care throughout your time here. That relationship – consistent, ongoing, and built around your full picture – is one of the most important parts of how we work.
  6. Getting settled. Once the intake process is complete, you'll have time to get comfortable in your space before the clinical day begins.

Family communication

Family communication during treatment is something clients have full control over, and that's intentional.

Under HIPAA, Pinnacle Peak Recovery cannot share any information about a client's presence or treatment with anyone, including family members, without the client's explicit written consent. That decision belongs entirely to the client. It is not determined by the facility, the level of care, or any external factor. If a client chooses to authorize family involvement, that's actively supported. If a client needs privacy during early treatment, that's respected without question.

For clients who do choose to authorize family communication, here's how it typically works:

  • Phone calls can be scheduled at appropriate points in the program
  • Family therapy sessions are integrated into treatment when clinically appropriate and when the client has authorized participation – learn more about our family & couples therapy
  • Visits may be available depending on the level of care and program phase
  • Updates on progress can be shared with authorized family members on an agreed-upon basis

Communication is structured around what supports recovery for both the client and their family. Early treatment often involves more focused inward work, and some clients choose to limit outside contact during that time. Others find family contact grounding and stabilizing. The clinical team will help guide that decision alongside the client.
If you're a family member reading this: The most helpful thing you can do right now is call us. We can walk you through the process, help you understand what your loved one is going through, and answer questions about what family involvement looks like at different stages of treatment. We also have a dedicated Parents' Guide to Addiction Services that walks through common questions families face.

Why Choose Pinnacle Peak Recovery for Your Treatment?

There are many treatment options in the Scottsdale and Phoenix areas. Here's what consistently sets Pinnacle Peak apart.

  1. Master's-level clinicians on every case. Every therapist holds a Master's-level credential. You're working with trained, experienced clinicians qualified to address complex presentations, including dual diagnosis, trauma histories, and co-occurring disorders – not entry-level staff.
  2. A true full continuum of care.Detox, inpatient, outpatient, and alumni programming – all at Pinnacle Peak. Your clinical team, therapeutic framework, and primary therapist remain consistent across all levels of care. No starting over. No re-explaining your story to a new team every few weeks.
  1. Small groups, on purpose. Our group's average of six clients, with a maximum of nine, is well below the industry standard of twelve or more. When everyone in the room has space to participate and be heard, the quality of the clinical work is genuinely different.
  2. Dual diagnosis as standard practice. Mental health and substance use are treated together from day one because, in most cases, they're connected. Treating one without the other leaves the underlying cycle intact.
  1. A proven process with a formal guarantee. If you follow our proven process and don't remain stable after one year, you may return to Pinnacle Peak at your provider's recommended level of care at no additional cost. We stand behind our work. 70.30% of clients who completed our proven process reached at least one year of continuous sobriety. That's not an industry statistic. It's our outcome, with our clients.
  2. Joint Commission-accredited and NAATP-recognized. Both designations confirm that our clinical standards have been independently verified against the highest benchmarks in addiction and mental health treatment.
  1. A setting that actually feels like home. Our Scottsdale facility is warm, comfortable, and staffed by people who genuinely care – not a clinical institution to be survived. People engage with treatment differently when the space around them feels safe and human.

Choosing where to get treatment is one of the most important decisions in the recovery process. We'd rather earn your trust with honest information than win it with a sales conversation.
